Shortly after the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, Apple announced it would remove the pregnant man emoji from all IOS devices. The company claims its reason is because they believe abortion is a women’s rights issue. However, they have not stated if the removal will be permanent.
Early in 2022 Apple released a new pregnant man emoji in an effort to be more inclusive to the transgender community. This decision was met with backlash, as basic biology believers pointed out that it is impossible for a man to get pregnant. Male pro-life activists, however, saw it as an opportunity to push back on the popular claim that “men can’t have an opinion on abortion.”
After realizing the emoji created a paradox between the social view that anyone can claim to be a woman and the current social idea that men can’t get pregnant, Apple decided to support the current social agenda. “After the abortion outrage cools down, we will consider bringing the pregnant man back to IOS keyboards,” said an Apple representative in an interview with The Free Pack.
The Free Pack is sad to see this popular emoji go, but looks forward to its return. There is still no word on how the transgender community is taking the news.
